to use combofix
turn off any anti virus software (duh. that’s why you are using it – the virus turned off everything)
if you have a non-current version, it tries to go online to get an update (and then restarts itself).
it will annoyingly tell you what anti virus programs are running (like who cares?)
the only “no” is to the popup “you do not have a recovery disk” – obviously, you don’t want one (as no one has floppies and it is useless anyway).
combofix can be run in safe mode (prefer with networking, to go online).
if you have an old version, only stage 50 is run (instead of 1 thru 50).
it takes about 20 minutes to run. more if you count the useless report at the end that says “please wait for the report”.
you can not run any programs while combofix is running.
if your computer dies (power failure), your computer is basically fried. try running combofix again, if you are lucky to get a dos prompt?
