modify mx records for westhost to point to google

1and1 points to google-gmail – 2010-01-23
NOTE – any time MX records are changed, subdomain requests must go thru westhost to modify the CNAME entry because of the custom zone file!

write to westhost at http://members.westhost.com/contactus.html to request the transfer. ask for the following:

The best way to request the MX records be entered, is like this:

1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com.
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com.
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.com.
10 ASPMX2.GOOGLEMAIL.com.
10 ASPMX3.GOOGLEMAIL.com.

1 ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.
5 ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM.

as per westhost:

1. In Site Manager > Domains, click on the domain name and then click on the “Edit Domain” button. Uncheck the box for “Use local mail server”.

2. Contact WestHost and request that the DNS records be changed for the specific domain in question. – Request the MX record be changed to Google Apps (please provide list of mail servers). – Request creation of a CNAME record “mail” to point to ghs.google.com. – Include account verification (Site Manager password or last four digits of the credit card on file).
